AT&T Wireless plans network rollout

11 Mar 2004

AT&T Wireless has announced plans to invest JMD1 billion in rolling out a GSM network, with launch slated for September or October. AT&T Wireless secured its concession on 9 March, paying JMD360 million. The company plans to roll out infrastructure first to the resort towns of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril, aiming to take advantage of the 1.2 million tourists that visit the island annually. ATTW will compete with three established operators – Oceanic Digital, Cable & Wireless and Digicel – which between them claim 1.5 million customers.
