Impsat to launch local services

13 Feb 2004

The Peruvian arm of Argentine operator Impsat has said it plans to launch local telephony services to the business sector next month, having invested USD2 million in the project since it was first announced last September. At that time Impsat said it would invest USD11 million to install 60,000 lines over the next five years. Incumbent operator Telefónica del Peru currently holds a near monopoly on the provision of local access services, experiencing only limited competition from the country’s other local licensees, Millicom Peru., BellSouth Peru, AT&T Latin America and Nextel Peru.
