Orange sells 3G licence

5 Jan 2004

Svenska UMTS-nat, a 50/50 joint venture between TeliaSonera and Tele2, has agreed to purchase Orange Sverige’s 3G licence. Orange has applied to the Swedish telecoms regulator, the National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), for permission to assign the licence. In order to comply with the terms of the new licence Svenska UMTS-nat, an original 3G licence winner, will expand its network coverage in a number of metropolitan areas. It claims the additional capacity afforded it by the additional licence will allow it to become more efficient in the medium to long-term.
