Mobitel to launch pilot 3G network

11 Dec 2003

Mobitel, the cellular arm of national state-controlled PTO Telekom Slovenia, will tomorrow introduce the country’s first trial 3G mobile network covering 15% of the population in and around the capital Ljubljana. Mobitel says it has signed agreements for one-way roaming with operators in six countries and that, at launch, users will have one mobile handset – the Motorola GSM/UMTS A835 – at their disposal. The company plans to introduce more models in phase two of the rollout, which will see coverage boosted to 62% of the population, mainly targeting towns and cities.
