KPN fixed-to-mobile charges test case flounders

European telcos can breathe a huge sigh of relief at the news that a test case investigation by the European Union into Dutch operator KPN’s fixed-to-mobile call charges looks likely to be dropped. Telcos’ feared that the investigation could lead to regulators imposing large fines and a huge reduction in tariffs if KPN had been found guilty of charging too much for the calls. But now sources say that, following a closed door hearing between KPN executives and EU regulators, the case is unlikely to continue, with KPN having ‘demolished’ the charges brought against it.
