5 Dec 2003

According to a report by Boston-based Strategy Analytics, Nokia’s share of the western European mobile handset market fell to 42% in the third quarter 2003, down from 51% in the same quarter of 2002. Nokia’s loss was Siemens and Sony Ericsson’s gain, whose market shares jumped to 17% (9.5%) and 6.6% (4%) respectively. Motorola fell outside the top four in western Europe for the first time in three years. Total western European handset shipments rose 23% from a year earlier to 32 million, boosted by demand for phones with cameras, games and e-mail capability.
