Ufone picks Siemens for GSM upgrade

Pakistan Telecom Mobile (Ufone), the mobile arm of national PTO Pakistan Telecom (PTCL), has selected Siemens to expand its GSM-900 mobile network in a deal estimated to be worth USD26 million. The German company will deploy infrastructure covering a total of 29 cities and upgrade the existing base station equipment in four more. Ufone currently has around 500,000 subscribers and a market share of 20%.
