Broadband begins to take off

According to Peruvian local paper Gestion, broadband connections in Peru will make up 10% of the country’s total fixed line market by the end of this year, rising to 20% by the end of 2004. The country’s three main operators – Telefónica del Peru, AT&T Peru and BellSouth Peru – began concentrating on the provision of ADSL in 2003, with dominant telco Telefónica claiming 68,197 ADSL lines in service at the end of September.
