Vodacom plans December launch

13 Nov 2003

South African telco Vodacom has announced plans to begin operations in Mozambique from next month. The company, which is a joint venture between Vodacom and Emotel, will trade under the name VM. The new operator is reported to have installed parts of its network in the south and central regions of the country, with further coverage planned for next year. Vodacom paid USD15 million for its licence in August 2002; it was given a year to launch services but has since missed this deadline.
