Second wireless licence awarded

According to Sudan’s official news agency SUNA, a fifteen-year GSM licence has been awarded to Bashair Telecom for USD177 million. The new cellco will compete with monopoly provider Mobitel, which provides coverage of Khartoum and a number of other cities. At the end of 2002 Mobitel, a joint venture between Sudatel and MSI Cellular, claimed 170,000 customers.
