The winter sales (i): Deputy PM threatens to call off BTC sale if year-end deadline is not met

21 Oct 2003

Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister Nikolay Vasilev has urged the involved parties to push through the sale of state telco BTC as soon as possible, according to local media reports. Vasilev runs BTC and has said that he would consider calling the sale off if it is not completed by the end of the year. Vienna-based Viva Ventures Holding has emerged as frontrunner for the 65% stake in the telco with a bid of EUR280 million, but the deal is still awaiting approval from the Privatisation Agency Supervisory Board.
