J-Phone to rebrand as Vodafone

8 Sep 2003

Japan’s third-largest cellco J-Phone is to change its name to Vodafone KK on 1 October, as its UK parent switches its focus exclusively to the country’s wireless market. The announcement comes two weeks after Vodafone confirmed the sale of its Japanese fixed line business to US investors Ripplewood for USD2.2 billion. The name change is subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting set for 25 September.
