Nortel makes THB8 billion CDMA bid

9 Jul 2003

Nortel Networks has made a THB8 billion bid to install a provincial CDMA network for the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT). The contract will include the installation of 1,000 CDMA base stations across the country within a period of 18 months. Last August the Realtime-Nortel consortium quoted a price of THB32 billion for the infrastructure; the deal was later postponed after ICT minister Surapong Suebwonglee stepped in to review the cost. Realtime pulled out of the consortium earlier this week, saying it would not wait indefinitely for approval.
