Bill on telecoms enters statute books

30 Apr 2003

The Serbian Ministry of Telecommunications and Transport has announced that a Telecommunications Bill proposed by the government has passed into law. One of the principle tenets of the new legislation is the setting up an independent regulatory body, known as the Telecommunications Agency. The regulator will be responsible for inviting tenders, selecting operators and overseeing developments in the telecoms sector. Despite its mission of being free from political or financial influence, the five members of the agency will be nominated by the Serbian government and approved by parliament.
