Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.

At the end of 2006 Hong Kong ranked first with a 31.6% broadband penetration rate, up 9% on the previous year. South Korea took second place, at 28.7% (up 15%), Japan third at 20.7% (up 18.4), Taiwan fourth at 19.9% (up 18.4%) and Australia fifth at 19.2% (up 40.2%).

Which five Western European cellcos counted the highest number of 3G subscribers at the start of 2007?

H3G Italia (7.19 million), Vodafone Italia (4.57 million), Telecom Italia Mobile (4.21 million), Hutchison 3G UK (3.85 million) and Orange France (3.59 million).

With three of the country’s four operators in the top five 3G providers, Italy ranks top in terms of 3G subscription with 16.26 million 3G customers from a total wireless base of just over 80 million. With a 120% increase in subscribers in 2006, Areeba Afghanistan ranked highest of the region’s wireless operators. Having only launched in July 2006, Areeba counted 218,000 customers by the end of the year, a figure which had jumped to 354,000 by the end of March 2007.
