Zain launches mobile financial service in Sudan

14 Aug 2014

Kuwait-based Zain Group, which provides telecoms services in eight markets across the Middle East and Africa, has announced that its Sudanese wireless unit has launched the country’s first mobile financial service in partnership with the Bank of Khartoum. The new service, known as ‘Hassa’, allows customers of Zain Sudan to carry out a wide range of financial transactions and operations, including transferring money, paying bills and withdrawing cash from ATMs, without the requirement of opening a bank account. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Zain is Sudan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, with a total customer base of 11.9 million at the end of March 2014, giving it a market share of 43.1%.
