SFR to compensate users following network outage

French mobile operator SFR, the country’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, experienced a network failure on 24 July 2014, with around 3.8 million users impacted by the outage, Le Figaro reports. The operator revealed that the disruption was caused by a hardware failure of its Home Location Register (GLR), deployed by Alcatel-Lucent. ‘Due to a technical incident, some of our mobile customers may experience difficulties making and receiving calls. Our staff will make every effort to rectify the situation as soon as possible’, the operator’s website said. SFR has since resolved the issue, and pledged to compensate affected users by offering unlimited voice calls and SMS, including 2GB of data allowance, for a month.
