Maldives mobile broadband subs up 34%

The Communications Authority of Maldives has reported that fixed broadband subscribers totalled 19,993 at the end of June 2014, down slightly from 20,308 twelve months earlier. Mobile customers in the Maldives grew 6.2% from 613,598 to 651,461 over the same period, with pre-paid users accounting for the majority (88.4%, or 576,074) of wireless users at 30 June 2014. Mobile broadband customers reached 136,777 at that date, up 34.1% from 101,963 a year earlier. According to the regulator, the number of fixed telephony lines (including payphones) fell slightly from 24,136 at mid-2013 to 22,128 a year later.
