Vodafone, PT ink fibre pact; shared infrastructure to reach 900,000 homes

21 Jul 2014

Vodafone Portugal and Portugal Telecom have signed an agreement to deploy and share fibre-to-the-home/building (FTTH/B) networks reaching 900,000 homes in Portugal. The agreement, which will take effect in December 2014 and runs for 25 years, will allow each party to ‘maintain complete autonomy and flexibility in designing their respective retail offers under the agreement’. UK-based parent Vodafone Group notes that the plan complements Vodafone Portugal’s current FTTH deployment programme, which aims to reach 1.5 million homes by mid-2015; after passing the 700,000-home mark in February this year, the rollout is said to be ahead of schedule, having recently reached the one million mark.
