Nova expands Icelandic LTE footprint

14 Jul 2014

Nova, Iceland’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has announced that it has expanded the coverage of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network – which offers maximum theoretical download speeds of 100Mbps – to Vestmannaeyjum, an archipelago situated off the south coast of Iceland, and Isafjordur, the largest community within the Skutulsfjordur fjord. Further, the operator has said that throughout the summer its 4G coverage will be extended to cover the areas of Akureyri and Selfoss, with coverage also enhanced in towns such as Reykjanesbaer, Skorradale and Grimsnesi.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at end-March 2014 Nova’s LTE network was available to around 65% of the population in the entire Reykyavik area, as well as Arborg, Reykjanesbaer, Akureyri, Skorradale and Grimsnesi.
