9 Jul 2014

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) telco Etisalat has so far successfully validated 95% of its mobile user base as part of the country’s SIM registration campaign, the Khaleej Times reports. Under the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) initiative ‘My Mobile, My Identity’, which began in mid-2012, all cellular subscribers have been given until 16 July to register their details or face disconnection. Etisalat is the largest of the two mobile operators in the UAE, with 54% of all subscribers at the end of March 2014, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
