Altel launches LTE in Taraz

3 Jul 2014

Altel, a subsidiary of Kazakh national operator Kazakhtelecom, has launched 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in Taraz. The city, which is situated in the Jambyl Province, is one of the oldest cities in Kazakhstan. It is located in the south of the country, on the Talas River, near the border with Kyrgyzstan.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Altel inaugurated its 4G network in December 2012 in the cities of Astana and Almaty. Coverage was extended to a number of satellite towns around the two cities in July 2013, before reaching Aktau, Aktobe, Atyrau, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Shymkent in December 2013. More recently, the network was extended to Kyzylorda last month.
