Verizon denies Ericsson network outsourcing rumour

2 Jul 2014

US mobile giant Verizon Wireless and Swedish vendor Ericsson have both issued responses to a Bloomberg report that claimed the equipment provider had entered into talks with Verizon and chief rival AT&T Mobility regarding the management of their network infrastructure. Ericsson vice president Kathy Egan-Wummer told RCR Wireless: ‘We did not mean to imply that we were in specific discussions with AT&T and Verizon regarding the management of their wireless networks. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.’ For its part, Verizon was at pains to point out that it is not on the brink of outsourcing the management of its wireless network. Spokesman Thomas Pica told RCR: ‘The story is inaccurate. We do not outsource our network management.’ Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman, said the company had nothing to add to the story.
