Globe Telecom announces 100% 3G network

2 Jul 2014

Filipino operator Globe Telecom has revealed that its mobile network is now 100% upgraded to 3G technology, while the firm also says that its entire infrastructure will be fitted with faster HSPA+ equipment by the third quarter of this year. ‘With a 100% 3G network, we now have a robust capacity for high-speed mobile data access. Providing our network with full HSPA+ coverage in 90 days will provide an even faster mobile internet experience,’ Globe’s president & CEO Ernest Cu said in a company statement. As well as upgrading speeds, the operator is also enhancing coverage and capacity, and is expecting to have a network comprising 6,500 cell sites by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Globe is looking to invest USD400 million over the next two years on its upgrade to 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, BusinessWorld reports. Globe had a 36.6% share of the domestic mobile market at the end of March 2014, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, with 40.7 million subscribers.
