Wholesale termination rates lowered

1 Jul 2014

Chairperson of the Turks & Caicos Telecommunications Commission, Heather Allen, announced on 20 June 2014 that lower wholesale interconnection rates will come into effect on 1 July via a new regulation which sets the rates LIME, Digicel and Islandcom will be allowed to charge each other for terminating both fixed and mobile calls on their networks over the next three years. As quoted by the Turks & Caicos Weekly News, Allen indicated that the move should have a knock-on effect on retail call prices while also fostering stronger competition, saying: ‘We are very pleased that the commission was able to continue with pricing reforms that will benefit all Turks & Caicos Islanders, and in these difficult economic times, provide some relief from price increases that are hitting so many essential services.’
