Tattelecom unit launches LTE-1800 network in Kazan

1 Jul 2014

Tattelecom, which acquired SMARTS-Kazan from Volga-based SMARTS Group in July 2013, has announced that its new subsidiary has launched Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology using the 1800MHz band. At launch the network covers Kazan, the capital city of the Tatarstan Republic, as well as 35 other cities across the federal subject.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Tattelecom was granted permission to provide LTE services using the 1800MHz band in February 2014. Following the approval, the telco confirmed plans to roll out 700 LTE base stations in Tatarstan, at a total investment of around RUB1.5 billion (USD43.1 million).
