Movistar expands 4G footprint

Movistar Peru has announced that it has extended its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to areas of Trujillo and Arequipa, increasing the cellco’s 4G footprint to cover 31 districts. To-date the cellco has signed up some 90,000 LTE subscribers, up from 70,000 at the start of May and an estimated 40,000 at end-March 2014. The Spanish-backed provider intends to invest USD400 million in its 4G platform over the next five years and is targeting total coverage of Lima as well as areas of Chiclayo and Piura.
