True to get 2G extension following 4G auction suspension

20 Jun 2014

Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has stated that True Corp’s 2G mobile division True Move will receive an extension of as-yet unspecified length to the existing 15 September 2014 deadline for switching off its 1800MHz GSM service. As reported by the Bangkok Post, the reason given by the regulator is the recent order by Thailand’s military-led administration to suspend the 1800MHz technology-neutral (4G) licence auction scheduled for August. True Move reportedly still serves around six million 2G 1800MHz customers, down from around 17 million last October.
