Co-ops gear up for IPTV launch

17 Jun 2014

A number of Argentine telecoms cooperatives are set to launch IPTV by the end of the year, NexTV Latam reports. Last September the Federal Authority of Audiovisual Communication Services (AFSCA) authorised the use of IP-based technology by local cooperatives for the transmission of audiovisual content, although the country’s main telecoms operators remain barred from offering the service. Since receiving the go-ahead from AFSCA last year, the cooperatives of Colonia Caroya and Jesus Maria (in the province of Cordoba), Pueblo San Jose (Coronel Suarez, Province of Buenos Aires), Tortuguitas (Buenos Aires), Morteros (Cordoba), Villa Gobernador Galvez (Santa Fe), RioTel from Rio Tercero (Cordoba), Corpico from General Pico (La Pampa), Pinamar’s Telpin (Buenos Aires), Funescoop from Funes (Santa FE) and Del Viso’s Telviso (Buenos Aires) have all begun preparing their networks for IPTV. The Cooperativa de Provision y Comercializacion de Servicios Comunitarios de Radiodifusion (Colsecor) – an entity created to provide content to the cooperatives that offer cable TV services – will distribute the channels.
