Shanghai Telecom to end dial-up services

China Telecom’s Shanghai unit, Shanghai Telecom, has announced that it will terminate its dial-up internet services in Shanghai from 1 July this year. Marbridge Daily writes that the telco has approximately 10,000 dial-up customers, consisting mostly of point-of-sale (POS) terminals and lottery ticket retailers. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database China was home to a total of 4.851 million dial-up subscriber at the end of 2013, down from 5.698 million a year earlier.
