T-Mobile pips AT&T to VoLTE launch

27 May 2014

T-Mobile US has revealed that it introduced Voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) services on 22 May, a day ahead of rival operator AT&T. T-Mobile says the service is limited to users in Seattle at launch, with only three handsets supporting the new technology for the time being; customers can access 4G voice services after downloading a software update. The operator is planning to deploy VoLTE across its entire network this year. Mobile market leader Verizon Wireless has confirmed that it too has a VoLTE launch in the pipeline.
