Cox to begin gigabit rollout in first three markets

27 May 2014

The US telco Cox Communications has announced plans to begin deploying 1Gbps internet services in three markets, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Omaha, Nebraska. The cable company says it will have commenced rolling out the super-high speed infrastructure in all of its markets by 2016. The firm has also said it will be doubling peak data speeds for around 70% of its existing customers this year at no additional cost, with users on the 25Mbps plan moving to a 50Mbps service and those currently taking a 50Mbps connection being upgraded to 100Mbps. Cox is the third largest cableco in the US, with around 4.8 million subscribers at the end of 2013.
