State telcos to roll out rural LTE project

19 May 2014

The government of Azerbaijan is planning a pilot LTE project that will see high speed mobile broadband expanded to remote areas of the country. News agency Trend cites Iltimas Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, as saying that the programme will be financed by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ). The country’s two state-owned telecoms operators, AzTelekom and Baku Telecom Production Association (BTRIB, also known as BakTelekom), will be responsible for implementing the LTE pilot project, which is expected to begin in the next few months.
