DTAC’s 4G goes commercial in Bangkok

12 May 2014

Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers DTAC has commercially launched 4G LTE mobile broadband using the 2100MHz frequency spectrum shared with 3G services in selected areas of Bangkok, with a marketing campaign based on the slogan ‘I am 4. I See Beyond.’ In the first phase, LTE services are available via 300 live base stations covering inner Bangkok areas such as Silom, Sathorn, Rama 4, Sukhumvit, Rama 9, Ratchada and others, according to DTAC’s press release, which estimated that the potential market within the service area currently numbers over 500,000 4G-capable smartphones and tablets. As an introductory offer, DTAC is offering 4G customers free 4GB data usage on the network for a period of four months. The operator is waiting for licensing of technology-neutral 1800MHz spectrum later this year before committing to a wider 4G rollout.
