Ufone offers free 3G trial; Telenor set to launch within two weeks

1 May 2014

Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Ltd (PTML), operating under the ‘Ufone’ banner, has launched 3G trials in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad offering unlimited free 3G services to customers with compatible handsets, Pro Pakistani writes. The trial is available for pre- and post-subscribers to Ufone’s services and the promotion will run until the cellco completes its full commercial launch.

Meanwhile the Tribune writes that Norwegian-backed cellco Telenor Pakistan is expected to activate its 3G network within the next two weeks. The cellco’s chief marketing officer Irfan Wahab Khan told journalists earlier this week that the cellco’s network is prepared for a full launch: ‘We have already completed our network swap and all of our 8,000 cell sites are 3G-ready.’ Commenting on its planned offerings, Khan noted that in addition to monthly post-paid packages, Telenor will offer daily and weekly data bundles to capture more of the low-end market.
