Nawras begins network modernisation in southern Oman

1 May 2014

Omani telecoms operator Nawras has embarked on the modernisation of its mobile network in the southern regions of the Sultanate, as part of its extensive nationwide ‘turbocharging’ programme. Customers in the city of Salalah will be among the first to benefit from the upgrade of Nawras’ mobile broadband network, to be followed by Mirbat, Taqah and Al Mughsail. In these areas, the company will double 3.5G network capacity and improve overall voice and data coverage. Nawras, which is majority owned by Qatar’s Ooredoo, will activate a third 3G carrier on the 900MHz band to boost indoor coverage and service quality, while availability of 4G LTE technology in Salalah will be significantly expanded.
