Chinese cableco consolidation comes one step closer

28 Apr 2014

The long-awaited consolidation of China’s many regional cable TV network operators has moved one step closer with the news that China National Radio and Television Network Co (CRTN) has been formally incorporated. The new entity will bring together hundreds of local cablecos under a single umbrella brand to create a new national operator. CRTN’s first aim will be to upgrade its various regional systems to enable them to provide triple-play packages of TV, voice telephony and broadband internet access, with a commercial launch under the new brand name expected by the end of this year.
