South African operator Telkom has announced that it is still in discussions with domestic rival MTN over the potential extension of an existing roaming agreement, which will include bilateral roaming as well as the outsourcing of the operation of Telkom’s radio access network (RAN) to MTN. According to Business Tech, Telkom has indicated that further information relating to the proposed transaction may be disclosed in its financial results announcement, which is scheduled to be released in June 2014, ‘depending on the status of negotiations at that time’. The two companies have previously outlined their intention to ‘retain and enhance [their] competitive differentiation and flexibility’, via the roaming pact.
