Jio inks tower deal with ATC

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecoms division of Petrochemical giant Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has signed an agreement to utilise the mobile towers of American Tower Corporation’s (ATC’s) Indian unit, Business Standard reports. ATC has a portfolio of around 11,000 towers in India, boosting the number of towers accessible by Jio to around 180,000 following deals with Reliance Communications (RCOM), which has leased access to some 45,000 towers, Bharti Airtel (82,000), and Viom Networks (42,000). Jio plans to launch 4G services nationwide in Q3 2014 and has signed infrastructure sharing and leasing deals to accelerate its 4G rollout.
