ArmenTel launches IPTV service with SPB TV; plans mobile TV

22 Apr 2014

Armenian fixed and mobile provider ArmenTel (trading as Beeline) has launched an IPTV service in the country in partnership with SPB TV, a leading provider of end-to-end over-the-top (OTT) TV, IPTV and mobile TV solutions for video content delivery to multi-screen devices. Arka News quotes ArmenTel chief executive Andrei Pyatakhin as saying that from launch, the new service will not only be available in Yerevan and other large cities, but also countrywide, where the Beeline fixed telephone network is available. ArmenTel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vimpelcom, is offering users access to a basic package of 50 Armenian, Russian and foreign TV channels for AMD3,000 (USD7.25) per month. Subscribers will also be able to bolt on extras – such as sports channels – to the basic suite of services, he added.

In a related development, Mr Pyatakhin also confirmed that ArmenTel is working towards the launch of a mobile TV service, again using SPB TV. Although no dates have been confirmed, the CEO said that mobile TV will be available ‘soon’.
