Turkmenistan to launch communications satellite this November

15 Apr 2014

Turkmenistan will launch its own communications satellite in November 2014, according to Central Asia Online, citing comments made by Alladurdy Atayev, head of the National Space Agency, to Char Tarpdan Radio. It has been claimed that the ‘Turkmen Alem 52,00 E’ satellite will help accelerate the development of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure, while it may also be used to find natural resource deposits.

With French contractor Thales Alenia Space having been contracted for the satellite’s design, construction and launch back in 2011, Turkemenistan.ru meanwhile reports that the company is currently in the process of completing the construction of ground control centres in the Ahal and Dasoguz provinces.
