25% of CAPEX to go on 3G/4G expansion and upgrade, Globe says

9 Apr 2014

The Filipino telco Globe Telecom says it has earmarked a quarter of its overall PHP27 billion (USD600 million) CAPEX in 2014 for the expansion of mobile data and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. According to a report from Telecom Lead, the firm is optimising its 3G and 4G networks for maximum performance, while building more sites and improving its transport system to boost capacity. Globe Telecom’s President and CEO Ernest Cu commented: ‘Data will remain a key investment area for the company in 2014 in anticipation of significant demand for the service.’ The operator had around 38.5 million subscribers and a 35% share of the overall cellular market in the Philippines at the end of 2013, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
