ICASA mulls 4G spectrum transfer aspect of Neotel sale

2 Apr 2014

The Economic Times reports that the sale of South African telco Neotel by Tata Communications to Vodacom is being held up as the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) ponders whether or not to allow key mobile spectrum to be part of the deal. Neotel currently holds a 10MHz block in the 800MHz band, which is suitable for LTE services, and which is widely regarded as being more valuable than the less efficient 1800MHz band spectrum currently used for LTE by MTN and Vodafone-owned Vodacom.
