Alca-Lu selected to aid China Mobile all-IP upgrade

28 Mar 2014

The world’s largest cellco by subscribers China Mobile has signed a one-year agreement worth EUR750 million (USD1.03 billion) with Alcatel-Lucent, under which the French-US vendor will provide the cellco with technology to move it to an all-IP network, paving the way for network functions virtualisation (NFV) and cloud-based services. The deal builds on existing partnerships between the duo; China Mobile tasked Alca-Lu with supplying elements of its 4G Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) network in 2013 and earlier this year the pair jointly demonstrated NFV technology for mobile operators.
