Vodafone launches LTE in Tasmania

21 Mar 2014

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has switched on its 4G LTE network in Tasmania, following successful live trials in West Moonah, Cambridge, New Norfolk, Warrane and Hobart Airport. According to chief technology officer Benoit Hanssen, in the coming months services will be expanded to other parts of the island, including Hobart CBD, Bridgewater, Claremont, Howrah, Huonville, Kingston, Lauderdale, Richmond, Sandfly, Sorell and Mt Faulkner. ‘A few weeks ago we announced our first million 4G customers on our network, a major milestone less than a year after we first switched on our first 4G site. Customers are telling us they are enjoying using their devices on our newest network,’ Hanssen stated. Vodafone, Australia’s third largest mobile network operator by subscribers, launched its LTE-based infrastructure on a commercial basis in June 2013.
