Cosmo Bulgaria (GloBul), the country’s second-largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has awarded a contract to China-based equipment vendor Huawei Technologies for its upcoming network upgrade project, scheduled to be completed by 1H15. According to a joint press release, Huawei will upgrade the operator’s 2G and 3G networks, replace and improve GloBul’s access, core and backbone transport networks, while also providing related services. Further, the agreement covers a five-year investment cycle and an eight-year maintenance period, although no financial terms have been disclosed.

Stein-Erik Vellan, CEO of GloBul, said: ‘At GloBul, we are excited with the commencement of this major project. In partnership with Huawei and their advanced technology and expertise, we will be able to build a reliable, high-capacity, 4G-ready network which will enable us to offer our customers cutting-edge technology and the best mobile data and voice service experience.’
