Only SMARTS Group have the answer: cellco unveils 1800MHz LTE plans

3 Mar 2014

Regional Russian mobile operator SMARTS Group has revealed plans to roll out a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network using the 1805MHz-1880MHz frequency band, and is currently preparing to hold a tender for the purchase of 4G equipment. According to ComNews.ru, the company has calculated that the deployment will require capital investment of RUB860 million (USD23.9 million), the bulk of which (RUB650 million) it plans to raise through loans. The plans were divulged to the news outlet by SMARTS general director Alexander Kurochkin at the ICT Investments Forum.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in December last year Russia’s State Radio Frequency Commission (SRFC) formally approved the use of 1710MHz-1785MHz and 1805MHz-1880MHz spectrum for LTE use, bringing to an end a lengthy period of speculation over the frequency band.
