MTS achieves 75Mbps speeds in St Petersburg LTE tests

Russian wireless giant Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has completed its trials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in St Petersburg and the surrounding suburbs, achieving downlink transmission speeds of up to 75Mbps. Going forward, the company intends to press on with the deployment of its network, in association with vendor partner Samsung. By end-2014 MTS expects to offer LTE coverage of St Petersburg, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk and the Komi Republic, with the South Korean vendor rolling out around 3,000 LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) across the north-west of the country.
