Swisscom boosts FTTH to 1Gbps

19 Feb 2014

Swiss fixed line incumbent Swisscom is deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) using point-to-point Ethernet technology to offer fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services with transfer rates of up to 1Gbps, the French-US vendor announced in a press release. The solution is being rolled out to provide 1Gbps broadband speeds to one million households in metropolitan areas of Switzerland. Swisscom’s CTO commented on the deployment: ‘In order to meet customer demand for increased speed and reinforce Swisscom’s position as market leader we knew we needed a solution that could maximise the performance of our existing infrastructure for the delivery of ultra-broadband while also creating a foundation for future growth and higher speeds. Alcatel-Lucent’s technology is a key element of the solution that accomplishes both of these goals.’
