APT eyes 4Q14 launch date for commercial LTE services

19 Feb 2014

Taiwanese mobile network operator Asia Pacific Telecom (APT), which secured 4G-suitable spectrum in the country’s frequency auction that concluded in October 2013, aims to launch commercial services in the fourth quarter of 2014, the Digitimes says, citing the Central News Agency. It is understood that APT will invest TWD4.13 billion (USD136 million) on procuring base stations, and backhaul and core infrastructure equipment. Approximately 3,000 4G base stations are expected to be constructed in the initial phase of the network rollout, the report notes.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in October 2013 APT bagged a 10MHz block of spectrum in the 700MHz band (block ‘A1’) with a bid of TWD6.415 billion.
